Treatment at CNS is focused around our seven major treatment
programs:
Therapy services are provided by members of our transdisciplinary
team that includes neurology, neuropsychology, speech and
language therapy, music therapy, occupational therapy, physical
therapy, psychological services, social work/care coordination,
and specialists in vocational re-entry and school re-entry.
The broadest program is the Brain Injury Recovery Program,
and in this program we provide comprehensive neurorehabilitation
services to individuals with acquired cognitive impairments
arising from traumatic brain injury or other neurological
conditions.
The Multiple Sclerosis Clinic provides strategies for clients
with a primary diagnosis of multiple sclerosis to better cope
with and compensate for motor, sensory, emotional, and cognitive
symptoms arising from their disease. The management of acute
changes following exacerbation is also a focus of this treatment
program.
The Memory Clinic focuses on memory and other cognitive
problems, primarily in our senior population. The overall
goal of the Memory Clinic is to help the client and family
members gain a better understanding of the types of problems
the client is having with memory and associated thinking skills
and to develop strategies to compensate for these problems.
Home modifications will be suggested, if needed, for safety
concerns. Case management is available for changing medical
and legal needs.
Occupational therapists who are certified driving rehabilitation
specialists (CDRS) administer the Adaptive Driving Program.
The assessment begins with an occupational therapy evaluation
of pre-driving skills (sensory, motor, reflexes, perceptual)
and brief neuropsychological testing. If the client performs
adequately on these assessments, then a behind-the-wheel evaluation
in a vehicle with an instructor safety brake is completed.
Recommendations regarding driving safety training and needed
accommodations are made, based on this information, to the
referring physician for final decision making about driving.
