Our interdisciplinary team has provided neurorehabilitation
services since the early 1980’s. However, as with many
rehabilitation programs, CNS gradually evolved. It initially
began as a private practice in neuropsychology. In response
to community needs, it expanded to provide multiple therapeutic
interventions. In 1988, we incorporated as the Brain Injury
Recovery Program. Our initial goals included enabling brain
injury survivors and their families to re-enter their home
community of choice. This allowed individuals with good family
or support systems to return to and reintegrate into their
community while participating in additional neurorehabilitation.
We continued to respond to community needs, and over the years,
our referral base broadened to include many other neurological
diagnoses. Currently, 40 percent of the people we see initially
have a diagnosis of traumatic brain injury. We also have tried
to respond to long-term needs of neurologically involved clients
and to the elderly. With that in mind, we became certified
as a Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Facility (CORF)
by Medicare in January, 1997. To respond to our changing patient
demographics, we changed our name and reincorporated as the
Center for Neurorehabilitation Services on January 1, 2000.
In March, 2002, CNS became a Designated Affiliate Clinic of
the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. |
