Headache Management

Comprehensive Team Approach

The goal of this service is to improve the quality of life for those who suffer from intractable headache problems.

A reasonable expectation is to have a 30%-50% overall reduction in headaches, thereby providing improved quality of life.

Our model, under the careful monitoring of our Medical Director and Neurologist, Gerald C. McIntosh, MD includes the application of the following modalities in a planned, sequential approach:

  • Biofeedback
  • Counseling
  • Physical Therapy
  • Care Coordination

The foundation of this service is the understanding that the most effective approach to managing headache pain is to merge the treatment of the emotional/behavioral needs with the treatment of the neurologically based physical needs.

This requires the highest level of effective communication from an integrated team. The CNS team has over 10 years of experience in the specialty care of headache/pain management.

Physical Therapy will address any muscle or joint problems as well as exercise prescription. Biofeedback teaches the self control of pain related body responses. Counseling is helpful in the management of stress or learning new strategies for coping. The Care Coordinator is available to ensure the program goes smoothly and other resource issues are resolved. Our outcomes indicate this approach is effective and we are available to answer your questions or take referrals.
